Why did you decide to rescue?
We have family members, friends and neighbors that have rescued animals and mostly all of them have had positive experiences. We always thought why not rescue a dog? There are so many that need homes, we just had to wait for the right one.
Please tell us your story with rescuing.
Charlie literally fell into our lap. While on vacation and browsing Facebook, I saw my cousin posted a picture of an English bulldog she found at a busy intersection in Riverside. He had no collar, no microchip was not neutered and was suffering from a horrible skin condition. While my cousin posted signs at the local animal shelters and on Nextdoor, we waited patiently to see if the bulldog's owner would come forward. Nobody came to claim him so a week later we piled in the car and drove to Riverside to pick up our newest family member, Charlie!
What was your biggest fear with rescuing and how did this fear play out once all was said and done?
We were nervous not knowing Charlie's history. Would he adjust to our home with 3 kids and an elderly pug sister? Did his owner let him go because something was wrong with him? We worried and it was an adjustment, but we are all so happy to have him join our family.
Would you rescue again?
Without a doubt, yes!
What would you say the most positive part of rescuing is?
I look at Charlie and can't fathom why someone would let him go. Knowing that we are giving him a second chance and that he will have a happy life with us is so rewarding. We are the lucky ones!
